Picture of the Month - April 2020

Updated: Oct 1, 2020

The basking shark is the second largest fish on the planet and a regular summer visitor to Ireland's west coast. On their search for plankton, their only food source, these animals travel thousands of kilometers every year. The numbers of basking sharks recorded in late April and early May were staggering, I had the privilege to witness a group of around 15 animals myself, and it would be interesting to know if these numbers are due to the decrease in shipping traffic due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
