Welcome to Nature Stories

Updated: Dec 30, 2019

I am a photographer and author based on the west coast of Ireland. This project started almost 2 years ago when I started photographing rock pools at a small cove only a few minutes from where I live. After having spent the summer among the inhabitants of one of the most intriguing Irish habitats the idea for a new book started to take shape. Putting together a book on Ireland's national parks had always been on my mind, combining this idea with a natural history guide sounded like a good idea.

As I was busy with other assignments the concept for Nature Stories only took shape very slowly but eventually there was a synopsis, text and images for two chapters.

A few weeks ago and out of the blue Tony Whelan of Canola Pictures, who most recently created the little masterpiece The Humpback Whales of Cape Verde, contacted me with the questions if I would be interested in working with him. Suddenly Nature Stories took on a whole new dimension.

After a meeting and several emails we decided to give it a go, Nature Stories was not only a potential book anymore, it might become a moving picture. The next step was setting up this website to give the project its own platform. As you can see we are still lacking in content but this will change over the course of the coming year.

With the world finally waking up to climate change, plastic pollution, ongoing habitat destruction and the realization that we are witnessing the early stages of a mass extinction event it feels like the right time to launch this project.

At the moment Nature Stories feels like a difficult mountain that needs to be climbed and I am excited and scared in equal measures. So let's start climbing and I would be happy if you would join me along the way.
